The Perfect Yarn for this Beanie:

For my basic beanies I always use worsted weight (4) yarn.  Any brand of worsted weight yarn is fine, but as you’re shopping you will notice that not all worsted weight yarns are not made equally. Some worsted weights are thinner than others. Keep this in mind when shopping for your yarn and try to stay away from thin worsted weight yarns for this project.

Basic Beanie

Materials needed:

  • US J/10 6.00mm hook
  • Medium worsted weight yarn (Yarn Bee Soft Secret)
  • Yarn needle

Guage

  • 4 dc stitches=1”
  • 2 dc rows=1’
  • I tend to crochet tight. If your guage doesn’t match, just go down a hook size.

  • Toddler (18”-19” head circumference)/(18” beanie circumference)
  • Child (19”- 20” head circumference)/(19” beanie circumference)

My First Post: How My Journey Started

I am so excited about trying my hand in the blogging world! When I started crocheting I depended on crochet bloggers! I looked up every single stitch! I mean, how else are you supposed to know what a dc3tog is? I hope this blog will become a place that is inspiring to other crocheters!

I have made a list of some of my favorite sites, in no particular order:

1.haakmaarraak

Kirsten from Haakmaarraak post some amazing free patterns. I linked to one of her easier patters, the Bonbon Bracelet. You should check out some of her other patterns, they are amazing.

2. Daisy Cottage Designs

Lauren from Daisy Cottage Designs also posts FREE patterns! I love free patterns! Her Etsy shop also features cool prints that she has designed! I love her crocheted hats. I linked to her Free Crochet Hat Patterns. You should check them out! Free Hat Patterns

3. Whistle & Ivy

I stumbled upon her site while I was scrolling through Pinterest looking for a slouchy Beanie patter for my boyfriend. I ended up making the Plaid Slouchy Hat. It’s a great pattern that works up quick and easy.

All of her free patterns are available in-text for free! If you would like a nice, neat, ad-free PDF, she has them for sale for a minimal fee. You can find them here or on Ravelry.

4. Moogly

This is a great site for beginners. It has lots of cute, FREE patterns that work up quick and easy.

5. Make & Do Crew

Jess is the Make and Do Girl of the Crew. She posts a lot of great step-by-step tutorials and FREE crochet patterns. I love using her site for inspiration. I’ve made a few projects from her page.

You can check out more of my crochet creations on Facebook and Instagram!

About Me

Welcome to Wild Soul, my name is Sara. I’m the girl behind the crochet hook!

I love to crochet and make things with my hands. I am a single mother of two beautiful children. In my free time, I love to relax by making something. As long as I’m creating something I’m happy.
I first learned to crochet when I was in elementary school!  I crocheted a few granny squares that never made it into anything and didn’t think much about crocheting for a long while! I started crocheting again in 2008 when I was pregnant with my first child.  I taught myself through patience and online videos and I haven’t stopped. I’m addicted to crocheting.
When I picked up crocheting again I depended heavily on the knowledge that others shared with me through the internet.  I work through patterns I have found online and in crochet books. I also design my own original creations and post my patterns for free along with step-by-step pictures of the process. I hope I can be helpful to beginner crocheters and inspire those that have been crocheting an entire lifetime!
I also write about my other interests, such as baking, style and family as well.  Journey with me as I blog about everything I love.

Thanks for stopping by!
Warm wishes,
Sara
